Children of Paradise is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1. This new transfer was created on a high-definition Spirit Datacine from Pathй’s restored 35mm fine-grain master and restored digital audio master. Due to extensive damage to sections of the original negative, Pathй replaced some segments of the film using duplicate elements. As a result, some variation in grain texture remains. Criterion used the MTI Digital Restoration System to remove over 30,000 instances of dirt, debris, and scratches that remained in Pathй’s restored film materials. Some flaws, including jump cuts, were beyond repair and are inherent in the film as it survives. Remaining clicks, pops, hiss, and crackle were removed from Pathй’s restored soundtrack using the Cedar Audio Restoration System.
